New Purses on Exhibit at
Green Hill Center for NC Art
We were invited to be part of the Winter Show and Sale at the Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art in Greensboro, NC December 5, 2009- January 15, 2010. This is the second time we have shown at this event and decided to collaborate on new purses. Using the theme “Japanese Garden Series,” Linda designed and sewed three new purses to go with our “Madame Butterfly” (click here) purse. “The Koi Pond” (click here) and “The Flower Garden” (click here) feature original embroidery that Linda created using Bernina design software. “Evening Breeze” (click here) uses antique kimono silk. Tim selected traditional kumihimo patterns for each purse and braided them on the Takadai using silk threads woven on 36-60 bobbins.
Linda Wins an Award in October 2009
For the second time, Linda has won a “Show Award” for one of her wall hangings in the “Fall Celebration of Art” at the TRAC Gallery in Spruce Pine. Called “Appalachian Starscape in Fall,” the 14 1/2” x 18 1/2” wall piece is part of a set of four, each depicting a season in the mountains. It combines traditional sewing techniques with the technology of original embroidery designed and then digitized using Bernina Designer software. The judge for the show is Chairman of the Art Department of UNC/Asheville. He said "Linda MacMichael's quilt showed a simple childlike joy in its use of color and stitching, yet was very well executed and had excellent attention to detail
and originality." (Click here to view all four of the wall hangings.)
